Earlier this week, we took a look back at the jewels worn by Queen Camilla for Trooping the Colour over the years. Today, we’ve got a flashback to the jewels worn by the Princess of Wales for the same event.
In June 2011, just a few weeks after her royal wedding, the then-Duchess of Cambridge made her first appearance at Trooping the Colour. She wore a pair of simple studs: the Grace style by Kiki McDonough, made of white topazes set in white gold.
In June 2012, Kate wore powder blue for the carriage procession and balcony appearance, accessorized with the Effervescence Bubble Stiletto Earrings from Links of London. The sterling silver earrings are set with iolites.
Kate was expecting Prince George at Trooping the Colour in June 2013. (There was much speculation, of course, about the pink color of her outfit for the event and the sex of her unborn baby—which naturally had a 50% chance of being accurate. It wasn’t.) She added an extra bejeweled touch with a pair of earrings that she wore often in the early years of her marriage: diamond and white gold Kiki McDonough hoops with pearl pendants from Annoushka Ducas.
She repeated the Kiki McDonough/Annoushka Ducas earring combination for Trooping the Colour in 2014. She also wore a brooch for the first time at the event: a brooch set with five pearl buttons. Many believe that it forms part of a set of costume jewelry that also includes Balenciaga’s Eugenia earrings.
Kate appeared on the balcony during the festivities in June 2015 wearing her diamond and aquamarine drop earrings with a blue and white floral coat.
Speaking of those Balenciaga Eugenia Earrings, Kate wore them for Trooping the Colour in June 2016, paired with the necklace from her Mappin & Webb Empress Suite.
Kate upped the sparkle factor considerably with her jewelry for Trooping the Colour in 2017, wearing a pair of diamond frame earrings loaned to her by Queen Elizabeth II.
In June 2018, Kate reached back into her Kiki McDonough collection to find jeweled accessories for Trooping the Colour. She decided on the Blue Topaz and Diamond Drop Earrings, plus the Eden Blue Topaz and Diamond Station Necklace. She had previously paired the jewelry pieces together during a visit to Berlin in 2017.
Kate returned to royal heirloom jewelry for Trooping the Colour in June 2019, wearing the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings, another loan from Queen Elizabeth II, and one of the diamond cross pendants from her personal collection.
Sapphires and diamonds were Kate’s jewel of choice for the special Platinum Jubilee edition of Trooping the Colour in June 2022. She wore diamond and sapphire cluster earrings from the collection of her late mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales, paired with a diamond and sapphire cluster pendant from another similar jewelry suite.
