Last week, the President and First Lady of Ukraine made several stops in Europe, including visits to Scandinavian monarchs.
On August 19, President Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska were received by King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden at Stenhammar Palace.
Queen Silvia wore gold jewelry for the audience, including a gold and pearl brooch in the shape of a bee. Ms. Zelenska also wore a gold brooch—if I’m right, it’s in the shape of an ear of wheat, one of Ukraine’s most important agricultural crops.
On August 20, Ms. Zelenska headed to Denmark for a meeting with Crown Princess Mary. They attended a Danish-Ukrainian service at Haderslev Cathedral.
Mary wore a brown and white ensemble for the service, accessorized with gold and diamond jewelry.
Those jewels included a pair of diamond hoop earrings.
Olena Zelenska also wore gold jewels, including another brooch.
On Monday, the Danish royals welcomed the Zelenskys to Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, holding a reception for them in the tapestry-laden Great Hall.
Queen Margrethe wore a coral-colored dress with a navy blue jacket for the reception, and she chose jewelry that echoed the blue and gold national colors of Ukraine.
These floral earrings were made by A. Michelsen for Margrethe’s mother, Queen Ingrid. The silver and lapis lazuli earrings were passed down from Ingrid to Margrethe, who treasures them and has worn them often.
On her collar, Queen Margrethe pinned a rectangular brooch. The sapphire and gold brooch was given to Margrethe in 1973 by President Urho Kekkonen of Finland.
She also wore a pair of interesting combs in her hair.
Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary joined Queen Margrethe for the reception. Mary wore a black and white dress with a polka dot print, made by Prada, with pearl stud earrings that echoed the white dots.
And here’s a look at the First Lady’s attire for the reception, which included gold and pearl drop earrings.
