The Dutch royal family was in The Hague this morning for an important event on the royal calendar: Prinsjesdag, the opening of the nation’s parliament.
The King and Queen of the Netherlands were joined by the heir to the throne, the Princess of Orange, as they arrived for the Prinsjesdag ceremony in The Hague.
King Willem-Alexander delivered his speech from the throne, outlining the government’s plans for the coming year, during the ceremony. Queen Maxima was by his side during the speech.
Willem-Alexander and Maxima are usually joined by his brother, Prince Constantijn, and sister-in-law, Princess Laurentien, on Prinsjesdag. This year, Constantijn and Laurentien rode in a carriage with another member of the family: the King and Queen’s second daughter, Princess Alexia.
Alexia recently turned eighteen, and this year marked her first appearance at Prinsjesdag.
The gathered crowd also got a glimpse of the King’s mother, Princess Beatrix, who watched the festivities from the window of a nearby building.
Prinsjesdag has a unique formal daytime dress code, which means that the ladies wear evening dress with daytime hats and accessories instead of tiaras. Queen Maxima pushed the envelope with her ensemble this year, wearing a light pink top and trousers with a colorful long jacket, made by Claes Iversen.
She accessorized with pink jewels, wearing her statement-making diamond and kunzite earrings.
Maxima also wore the diamond and kunzite floral bracelets from the set on her left wrist, plus her diamond initial bracelet on her right.
Princess Amalia was gorgeous in royal blue and tan for Prinsjesdag this year, wearing a dress made by Safiyaa.
She borrowed the earrings and ring from her mother’s diamond and tanzanite suite to go with the rich purple-blue shade of the gown. Amalia changed up the earrings a bit, wearing the diamond-shaped tanzanite and diamond drops on a longer diamond chain.
Here’s a look at the same tanzanite drops worn by Queen Maxima in November 2022.
The Dutch royals have used this particular diamond chain with other drops from the collection, too. Above, Queen Maxima wears it with Queen Juliana’s aquamarines.
Amalia also added an heirloom diamond bracelet to her right wrist, wearing one of the Dutch East Indies Bracelets. The bracelet was originally part of a larger bracelet given to Queen Juliana of the Netherlands as a wedding present in 1937.
She also wore her mother’s sapphire and diamond tennis bracelet to complete the look.
Princess Alexia was gorgeous in a deep berry red ensemble for her first Prinsjesdag appearance, wearing a dress by Zhivago with a modified floral headpiece from Queen Maxima’s collection.
She wore a pair of lovely diamond drop earrings from the royal collection for the occasion, as well as a teeny diamond stud earring in a second piercing.
Alexia picked up the red color of the gown with ruby jewelry as well, wearing a ruby and diamond cluster ring and her mother’s ruby and diamond tennis bracelet.
Rounding out the royal party was Princess Laurentien, in a lovely saturated green gown from Hardies Couture.
She wore a modern set of silver-toned jewelry with green stones, including a necklace with an eye-catching beaded tassel pendant.
