This evening, Britain’s future King and Queen were joined by Sweden’s future monarch and consort for a celebration of the British entertainment industry in London—and there were flashes of sparkle on display!
On Thursday morning, the Prince and Princess of Wales received Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden at Windsor Castle. (We covered the jewels from the meeting over here!)
And on Thursday evening, the two royal couples headed to London to attend the annual Royal Variety Performance, held this year at the Royal Albert Hall. The performance is an annual charity event, raising funds to help support those who have professionally served the entertainment industry and find themselves sick, impoverished, or elderly.
Prince William and Princess Catherine arrived for the performance in their black-tie finery. Kate’s elegant blue gown is a custom creation from Safiyaa. The dress has crystal embellishments at the neckline.
Kate added more sparkle with a pair of crystal and pearl earrings and a coordinating bracelet.
It’s tough to get a clear view of the earrings that Kate wore for the performance, but it appears that she has repeated a pair of J.Crew earrings from her jewelry archive.
Here’s a closer look at the earrings from the J.Crew website. They’re simply called “pearl and crystal earrings” by the brand, though the pearls used are faux. Kate wore the earrings previously for the Festival of Remembrance, also at the Royal Albert Hall in London, back in November 2018.
You’ll spot the faux pearls from the earrings peeking out from Kate’s hair here. The crystals in the earrings coordinate well with the crystals affixed to the dress.
Kate also wore a large bracelet on her right wrist. I’m not sure about the source of this one, but I’m almost certain that it is also a piece of costume jewelry. I’ll update you here if I learn more.
And, finally, we saw Kate’s famous royal engagement ring, with its sapphire popping beautifully against the background of the blue dress.
Crown Princess Victoria was elegant in black and gold for the performance, and Prince Daniel, as always, was exceptionally dapper in his black-tie attire.
Victoria wore a black dress with a matching wrap. I think the texture here is feathers? I know our sartorial experts will offer their expertise if not.
She added a pair of bold, modern gold and black earrings with a chain link design.
She also layered a pair of gold necklaces and wore a black enamel and gold bracelet. UFO No More tells us that, just like the hoop earrings she wore this morning, all three pieces come from the Swedish brand Toteme.
A scheduling note: since I’m publishing this article on Thursday afternoon, there will be no regularly scheduled Friday post tomorrow. I’ll see you back here on Saturday morning for our usual weekend dose of royal sparkle!
