When it comes to glittering royal events in 2023, it’s tough to top the incredible royal wedding festivities held in Amman this June. The penultimate entry in our countdown of the best royal jewelry moments of the year features the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa.
Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan, the elder son and heir of King Abdullah II, married his fiancée, Rajwa Al-Saif, in an elegant, glamorous ceremony at the Zahran Palace in Amman on June 1. Crown Prince Hussein was dapper in uniform, while Princess Rajwa was elegant in a gown by Elie Saab.
She added bejeweled touches to her ensemble as well: modern diamond earrings and a coordinating tiara. The tiara, a custom piece from FRED, features a lovely little nod to the bride in its calligraphy design. The Arabic script design in the tiara reads “Rajwa min Allah,” which means “hope from Allah”—and, of course, references the meaning of Rajwa’s name.
There were some lovely jewels on display on family members and guests during the ceremony as well, including these beautiful gold and diamond earrings on the groom’s mother, Queen Rania.
The groom’s grandmother, Princess Muna, was lovely in diamonds and amethysts.
The Duchess of Brabant, heir to the throne of Belgium, borrowed antique diamond and kunzite earrings from her mother, Queen Mathilde.
Queen Maxima of the Netherlands wore her gorgeous necklace set with diamonds, moonstones, and vibrant blue gemstones.
Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein also wore a gorgeous antique necklace set with diamonds and sapphires, plus a matching pair of earrings.
And Queen Sofia of Spain opted for a demi-parure of diamonds and sapphires as well, plus an eye-catching modern brooch.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were guests at the wedding, too, marking one of their most high-profile foreign royal appearances since his father’s accession. Kate wore a pair of pink gemstone statement earrings from her jewelry box.
And delightfully, the British royal contingent also included Princess Beatrice, who is a friend of the bride and groom. She wore her beautiful diamond clip earrings for the wedding ceremony.
There were also plenty of jewelry highlights at the evening’s wedding banquet. The bride swapped out her dress for a ballgown from Dolce & Gabbana, worn with the same jewels, while Queen Rania wore her own Arabic script tiara from FRED.
The extended Jordanian royal family brought out a ton of tiaras, and so did the foreign royal guests. Princess Elisabeth wore her antique diamond tiara, worn for the first time in Norway in 2022, for the banquet.
The Princess of Orange joined her parents for the wedding banquet, too. Queen Maxima dazzled in the Stuart Tiara, while Princess Amalia wore the Ruby Peacock Tiara.
Queen Sofia of Spain made her first tiara appearance in years at the banquet, wearing the Niarchos Ruby Bandeau and its matching parure.
Hereditary Princess Sophie was elegant in a fascinating family heirloom, the Kinsky Honeysuckle Tiara.
Princess Takamado brought glittering jewels from her personal collection from Tokyo to Amman, wearing her diamond and pearl wedding tiara.
The Princess of Wales was elegant in Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara, but it was her earrings—her debut in the Greville Chandeliers—that caused the bigger stir among jewelry lovers.
And finally, Princess Beatrice surprised us all by unearthing the York Diamond Tiara, her mother’s bridal diadem, from the family vaults for the banquet.
This recap post is only scratching the surface of the sparkling jewels that were on display for the wedding. Be sure to read my reviews of the jewels from the ceremony and the jewels from the banquet for much more!
