The Queen of the Belgians is currently in Ivory Coast, traveling with the United Nations, and on Monday, she wore a lovely pair of floral earrings for the first engagements of the trip.
Queen Mathilde arrived in Ivory Coast on Monday for the start of a three-day working visit. She’s there in her capacity as an ambassador for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a call to action project by the United Nations. The UN website explains that the goals “recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth–all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.” Queen Mathilde began her ambassadorial trip in the city of Abidjan, where she met with UN Resident Coordinator Philippe Poinsot.
Next, Queen Mathilde traveled to the Presidential Residence in Abidjan, where she was welcomed by President Alassane Ouattara and his wife, Dominique.
After the diplomatic welcome ceremony, Mrs. Ouattara accompanied Queen Mathilde to the Mother and Child Hospital in Bingerville. Belgian royal reporter Wim Dehandschutter notes that the hospital is “a project of Children of Africa, a foundation launched by Dominique Ouattara in 1998.”
During her visit to the hospital, Mathilde was able to meet with staff and patients. Mathilde was a speech therapist before her marriage to King Philippe, and Dehandschutter wrote that she was able to meet with a fellow therapist working for the hospital during the visit.
For these first stops during her working visit, Queen Mathilde wore a pink poplin day dress with a vibrant magnolia print, paired with ivory shoes and a beige clutch bag. UFO No More tells us that the dress comes from Oscar de la Renta.
Mathilde accessorized with a pair of bold statement earrings that echoed the floral print of the dress.
The beaded earrings, in the shape of jasmine flowers, come from another favorite brand, Carolina Herrera.
Here’s a closer look at the earrings from the Carolina Herrera website. The petals of the gold plated flower earrings are decorated with small white beads.
We’ve seen Mathilde wear these on previous occasions. Above, she wears the earrings with a green and white floral dress during Belgium’s National Day celebrations in July 2023.
Mathilde also wore her usual gold bracelets and her watch on her left wrist. Her slim gold wedding band was in its usual spot on her right hand, and she wore her lovely bright blue gemstone ring on her left. Every ten years or so, King Philippe has upgraded his wife’s original ruby engagement ring. In 2009, for their 10th wedding anniversary, he gave her a gorgeous blue sapphire ring. And a few years ago, after they celebrated 20 years of marriage, this ring began to appear on Mathilde’s hand. Many of us have guessed that the ring features a blue tanzanite set in a slender halo of diamonds.
