On Friday, Queen Mary of Denmark celebrated an important university anniversary, wearing a pair of personalized earrings for the occasion.
Queen Mary arrived in Aalborg on Friday to attend the 50th anniversary celebrations at Aalborg University. The university, a public institution with campuses in Aalborg, Copenhagen, and Esbjerg, was officially inaugurated in 1974 by Mary’s mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe.
For the university visit, Mary wore a vibrant purple blouse with a black skirt. UFO No More tells us that the blouse comes from Jesper Hovring.
With the ensemble, she wore several pieces of familiar jewelry, including a pair of earrings that have been in her collection for more than a decade.
Here’s a closer look at the earrings, which feature diamond floral studs and amethyst drops. The back of the drops are decorated with Mary’s royal cypher. The stones chosen also have special meaning: Mary was born in February, which means that amethyst is her birthstone.
And here’s an earlier look at Mary wearing the earrings during a trip to the United States back in the spring of 2010. The personalized earrings were made by the Danish company Cenius & Bach.
Mary also wore a pair of delicate necklaces that we’ve seen her sport often in recent years. One features a diamond-studded F charm, a little bejeweled tribute to her husband, King Frederik X. The longer necklace has a pendant engraved with the initials of their four children: Christian, Isabella, Vincent, and Josephine.
I’ll be back here later today with coverage of tonight’s tiaras in Sweden! See you then!
