The Danish royal family gathered at Amalienborg to celebrate King Frederik’s birthday for the first time during his reign, sparkling in diamonds and gold for a balcony appearance at the palace.
King Frederik X and Queen Mary greeted the crowds from the balcony of Frederik VIII’s Palace in Amalienborg on Sunday as the monarch celebrated his 56th birthday. They were joined by their four children, Crown Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent, and Princess Josephine, for the celebration, as well as Frederik’s mother, Queen Margrethe.
Queen Mary was gorgeous in electric violet pink for the balcony appearance, accessorized with sparkling jewels from her personal collection. She positioned one of her favorite necklaces, a gold chain with a diamond-set charm in the shape of the letter F, just above her neckline so it was particularly visible on Frederik’s birthday. The other chain disappearing beneath her dress likely held another pendant, this one with the initials of the couple’s four children.
Her modern earrings, set with yellow and pink gemstones, coordinated beautifully with the vibrant color of her dress. UFO No More tells us that the earrings come from Annikat. Mary owns several pieces of jewelry from the brand, including stunning blue topaz earrings and diamond wing bracelets.
You’ll also spot a pair of gold Cartier Love Bracelets on Mary’s left wrist, and her diamond and ruby engagement ring paired with a diamond eternity-style wedding band on her left hand.
Queen Mary also added one more bit of sparkle as well: a diamond cluster ring with a pinky-purple center gemstone, worn on her right hand.
Queen Margrethe got the “bright pink” clothing memo, too, wearing a favorite dress made of eyelet fabric in a watermelon pink shade.
She accessorized with some of her most special personal day jewels: the Diamond Daisy Brooch and its coordinating earrings. The brooch belonged to Margrethe’s mother, Queen Ingrid of Denmark. It was a gift from Ingrid’s father, King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden, set with diamonds that had belonged to her late mother, Princess Margaret of Connaught. Both Princess Margaret and Queen Margrethe go by the nickname “Daisy,” adding even more special sentimental significance to the gorgeous diamond jewels. Ingrid and Margrethe both wore the brooch on their wedding gowns, and when Margrethe announced her abdication plans in December, she was wearing both the earrings and the brooch for her speech.
Both Princess Isabella and Princess Josephine borrowed blue and white dresses from their mother’s closet for the balcony appearance. Isabella accessorized with gold hoop earrings and a necklace with a gold and diamond charm in the shape of the letter B (for “Bella,” her nickname).
She also wore a pair of golden bracelets on her right wrist. Perfect accessories for waving to a crowd!
Princess Josephine also wore a dark red bracelet on her right wrist for the appearance. She added a few more accessories as well, including playful pendant earrings set with colorful cabochon gemstones and a necklace with a gold cross pendant.
