On Thursday, the King and Queen of Denmark sailed aboard the royal yacht for the first time during his reign, with Mary wearing nautical navy with classic jewels for the occasion.
King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark made the maiden voyage of his reign on the Royal Yacht Dannebrog on Thursday, sailing to the coastal town of Helsingör before heading on to nearby Fredensborg Palace. Helsingör is the home of Kronborg Castle, an important Renaissance palace-fortress. The area was also immortalized by Shakespeare as “Elsinore” in Hamlet.
The Danish monarch traditionally uses the royal yacht to sail around the country each summer, and Frederik and Mary are planning to use it to make visits to both the Faroe Islands and Greenland in June and July. But first, it will be a striking mode of transportation for the first state visits of Frederik’s reign. Next week, they’ll sail aboard the yacht to Stockholm to begin their state visit with King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden. During the week afterward, they’ll travel to Oslo on the Dannebrog for a state visit with King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway.
For the trip aboard the yacht on Thursday, Queen Mary wore nautical navy blue and white. She selected a navy blue satin dress with white polka dots from her closet for the occasion. UFO No More notes that the dress comes from the brand Iris & Ink.
We’ve seen Mary wear this dress on previous occasions. In May 2021, she chose it for the confirmation of her elder son, Prince Christian, at the Fredensborg Palace chapel. On that day, she accessorized with diamond floral earrings and the Connaught Sapphire Brooch. Fittingly, the brooch was a gift to her from her mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe, to celebrate Christian’s birth. In November 2022, she also wore the dress beneath a navy blue coat for a luncheon celebrating Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee in Copenhagen.
This time around, Mary wore the dress with a white headpiece, which features feather and netting embellishments, and a white belt. She opted to go without a brooch this time, but she did add a few other sparkling accessories to the ensemble.
She selected a small pair of floral stud earrings from her jewelry box. From some angles, the center stone of the cluster earrings looks like it may have a yellow hue.
On her left wrist, Mary wore two Cartier Love Bracelets stacked together.
Here’s a closer look at the bracelets. Numerous royals have this classic Cartier design in their personal collections. Mary has regularly been wearing a Love Bracelet for almost a decade.
On her left hand, Mary wore her diamond and ruby engagement ring and a diamond eternity band. On her right, she wore a large white pearl and diamond cluster ring.
It’s going to be an exciting few weeks for Danish royal jewels, with Queen Mary making her first foreign gala appearances during the Scandinavian state visits, and the couple celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary on May 14. Which royal jewels are you hoping to see Mary wear for the Swedish and Norwegian state banquets? Since the emerald parure has to stay back in Denmark, I’m guessing we’ll see the Pearl Poiré Tiara and the Danish Rubies during the two trips.
