The Bernadottes always bring out playful jewelry pieces for the Polar Music Prize ceremony, which was held on Tuesday in Stockholm. Here’s a look at some of the glittering jewels they chose for the evening.
King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden were joined by Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, as well as Princess Christina and Tord Magnuson, for this year’s prize ceremony at Stockholm’s Grand Hotel. The Polar Music Prize is an international award that recognizes and celebrates excellence in the world of music. This year’s honorees were the Finnish composer Esa-Pekka Salonen and the American producer, composer, and guitarist Nile Rodgers. Above, Salonen and Rodgers pose with members of the royal family after the prize ceremony.
The event is always a chance for the Bernadottes to have a little more fun with their gala attire, wearing pieces that are a little bit more whimsical than their gala gowns and jewels for occasions like formal dinners. The dedicated chroniclers of Scandinavian royal fashion at UFO No More tell us that Queen Silvia’s green-gold dress was made by Maknam.
With the grassy green gown and wrap, Silvia wore a pair of oversized flower earrings with diamond-set petals. She also added a torc-style necklace in gold and diamonds with carved pink gemstone tips.
Here’s a closer view of the earrings and necklace that really shows off the textured quality of the necklace.
Silvia also wore rings on both hands and bracelets on both wrists, including this lovely diamond tennis-style bracelet.
Crown Princess Victoria went for full sparkle in a dress festooned with silver sequins and paillettes. UFO No More tells us that the dress was made by H&M.
She added even more sparkle with a pair of crescent moon-shaped earrings. The pearl and crystal-encrusted earrings come from Maria Nilsdotter, the same jeweler who made Victoria’s fascinating Nocturnal Creatures Tiara.
She finished off the look with a chunky silver chain-link-style bracelet from David Andersson.
The chain-link theme carried through to Princess Sofia’s for the prize ceremony as well. She was elegant in a black dress topped by a black and silver bolero jacket. UFO No More tells us that both pieces were made by Fadi el Khoury.
She accessorized with diamonds, including this eye-catching modern pair of chandelier earrings from the brand Bolou.
And finally, the King’s sister, Princess Christina, wore a breeze floral tunic top with coordinating trousers for the ceremony.
She added some really interesting pieces of pearl jewelry to her outfit, including earrings with black pearl drops and a necklace of different-sized black pearls. She also wore a pearl ring on her left hand, plus another necklace with a gold and diamond centerpiece.
