This weekend, the royal family of Jordan marked a major milestone, the King’s Silver Jubilee–and there was a diamond tiara on hand for the celebration!
Ahead of this weekend’s Silver Jubilee celebrations in Amman, the Royal Hashemite Court released a new official portrait of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania in gala attire. In the photograph, Queen Rania wears the Arabic Scroll Tiara, a modern jewel that features the prayer “Allah is Great” in Arabic lettering.
The tiara has been in Rania’s collection for almost two decades. It was commissioned for her in 2005, reportedly as a gift from King Abdullah. The tiara was made by Yan Sicard for FRED. Above, Rania wears the tiara during the state visit to the Netherlands in October 2006.
Later, the top line of the tiara was adjusted and softened, making the diadem slightly more traditionally shaped and certainly easier to wear. Rania wore the new version of the piece in June 2023 for the wedding of her son, Crown Prince Hussein, in Amman.
Queen Rania also wore the tiara on Sunday for the national celebration of the King’s Silver Jubilee in Amman. The event was both a pageant and a parade, with numerous members of the extended royal family of Jordan in attendance. The King and Queen were joined by their four children, as well as their daughter-in-law and son-in-law, and Abdullah’s mother, Princess Muna. Many more royal cousins were on hand for the celebrations as well.
King Abdullah was in full military dress uniform for the celebration, while Queen Rania wore a deconstructed modern evening gown with gala jewels.
She paired the Arabic Scroll Tiara with diamond earrings and a large ring, worn on her left hand.
Here’s another look at the earrings, which feature mirrored pendants, one suspended from the front of the earlobe and the other from the back.
Rania was the only member of the family wearing a tiara, but there were a few other pieces of interesting jewelry worn by other ladies of the family. Princess Rajwa, pictured here beside her husband, Crown Prince Hussein, was elegant in a red ensemble with an embroidered jacket for the celebration. Rajwa is expecting the couple’s first child later this summer.
Rajwa added a little extra sparkle to her outfit with a modern pair of diamond earrings.
Also looking elegant during the celebration was the King’s mother, the British-born Princess Muna. She wore an embroidered caftan with classic diamond and pearl jewelry to celebrate her son’s Silver Jubilee.
