Over the last several weeks, some of the most talented violinists in the world have been competing in Belgium, and Queen Mathilde has worn some lovely jewels to watch them shine.
Queen Mathilde has attended numerous sessions of this year’s Queen Elisabeth Violin Competition at the Bozar in Brussels. I’m going to highlight three interesting moments from her appearances in today’s article, starting with this neutral ensemble that was pepped up with sequins and statement earrings.
The large earrings appear to feature hammered gold button-style studs with pendants made up of a trio of sizeable beads. Mathilde also wore her usual rings and bracelets with the ensemble: her gold wedding band on her right hand, her diamond and tanzanite ring on her left hand, and two gold bracelets with cabochon gemstones paired with her watch on her left wrist.
On May 27, King Philippe joined his wife for an appearance during the competition finals. Queen Mathilde glittered in a spangled red gown from a favorite royal designer, Jenny Packham, for the evening.
She accessorized with an equally sparkly pair of earrings. These effortlessly classic diamond earrings feature petite diamond studs and round diamond drops.
Mathilde has been wearing the diamond earrings, which appear to be antiques, for several years. She’s also shared them with her elder daughter, the Duchess of Brabant.
Mathilde and Philippe’s younger daughter, Princess Eleonore, joined her mother at the violin competition on Saturday. Sixteen-year-old Eleonore is also reportedly a keen violinist herself.
Both mother and daughter wore jewels in shades of pink with their outfits for Saturday’s appearance at the Bozar.
Queen Mathilde wore a structural top covered in sequins, accessorized with the earrings from her antique suite of diamond and kunzite jewels.
The jewels were sold at auction by Sotheby’s in London in 2018. The set included earrings with gorgeous kunzite drops and a matching ring.
Here’s another view of Mathilde wearing the earrings, which have also been worn by Princess Elisabeth, for Saturday’s violin performances.
You’ll be able to spot the matching diamond and kunzite ring on Mathilde’s right hand in this photograph as well.
Princess Eleonore kept the pink theme going, wearing a pair of pendant earrings with rose quartz drops and diamond accents with her floral outfit.
Here’s another look at the earrings, which she borrowed from her mother’s jewelry box for the occasion.
