As the Olympic Games wind down toward their closing ceremony over the next few days, I thought we’d take one more peek at some interesting jewelry worn by a royal superfan, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, as she attended several events in Paris.
Queen Maxima kicked off her Olympics at the opening ceremony on July 26, attending alongside her husband, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.
With her smart casual Olympic jacket and T-shirt, Maxima wore a pair of earrings that reflected her national pride. The sparkling flower earrings are set with smoky stones (citrines, perhaps?) in a dark shade of orange, one of the national colors of the Netherlands. (The royal family also belongs to the House of Orange, though that name comes from a place–a community in southeastern France–not the color.)
Queen Maxima and the rest of the Dutch royal family kept the orange color theme going throughout their appearances in Paris. On July 28, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima were joined by two of their daughters, Princess Amalia and Princess Alexia, as they attended the mountain bike cross-country finals. (Princess Ariane, the youngest of their daughters, is currently studying at the United World College of the Adriatic in Italy. One eagle-eyed Dutch journalist spotted Maxima video chatting with Ariane during the opening ceremony.)
Queen Maxima added orange accessories, including a TeamNL bucket hat, to her floral ensemble for the mountain biking event. They were there to cheer on the Dutch cyclist Puck Pieterse, who finished fourth in the women’s competition.
Maxima added even more orange flair with a pair of orange statement earrings with diamond accents. We’ve seen her wear the earrings before, including an outing during a visit to Morocco in 2023. And check out the little wooden shoes she has pinned to her dress, too!
Maxima finished off the outfit with a stack of bracelets, including a large gold evil eye bangle set with diamonds and sapphires. (It comes from Marianna Goulandris, per UFO No More.) She also wore a cocktail ring that also appears to be set with a honey-colored orange gemstone.
The Dutch royals were also in the crowd to cheer on a pair of Dutch swimmers, Arno Kamminga and Caspar Corbeau, during the men’s 100m breaststroke final.
With a brightly-patterned blouse, Maxima wore a pair of enormous statement earrings in equally bright colors.
UFO No More has the details on these: they’re Zara earrings made of resin.
Maxima also wore the same cocktail ring with the golden-hued center gemstone on her right hand, as well as her unique orange diamond engagement ring and her wedding band on her left hand.
King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, Princess Amalia, and Princess Alexia were all on hand again the following day to attend a women’s volleyball match between the Netherlands and Turkiye. (Turkiye ended up winning three sets to two.) The entire royal family was decked out in orange and TeamNL gear for the match.
With her brown suit, Queen Maxima wore a bright orange pashmina and gold jewelry, including a large pair of hoop earrings and a chain-link necklace.
She finished off the look with more jewels that were constant companions during the Olympics: the gold, diamond, and sapphire evil eye bangle and the cocktail ring with the orange-toned center stone.
