On Monday, we chronicled a moment of mourning and remembrance for the former royal family of Greece. Today, we meet them (and their jewels!) in a happier moment: a family dinner with their Spanish royal relatives in Palma de Mallorca.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain led a family party as they arrived at Mia Restaurante in Palma for a casual dinner out on August 4. The restaurant, led by chef Guillermo Cabot, promises “an exceptional culinary experience with fresh products and an extensive wine list.”
For the evening out, Felipe and Letizia were joined by their daughters, the Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia, as well as his mother, Queen Sofia. Also joining the family party were Queen Sofia’s younger sister, Princess Irene of Greece and Denmark, and their cousin, Princess Tatiana Radziwill, and her husband, Jean Henri Fruchaud.
Both Queen Letizia and Queen Sofia kept cool in summery clothing perfect for a Mallorcan evening. Letizia wore a pink floral dress from the brand Virginia Vald, while Sofia wore a red blouse with white trousers and red accessories.
Queen Letizia accessorized with a pair of golden starburst earrings that she’s worn before in the Balearic Islands. The “Vents” earrings were made by Isabel Guarch, a local Mallorcan jewelry designer.
Letizia wore the same pair last summer at Marivent Palace for a dinner for local authorities.
Here’s a closer look at the earrings from the Isabel Guarch website. Made of 18-carat yellow gold and diamonds, the earrings take their name from the wind rose, an old navigation tool used on maps for sailors.
Queen Sofia wore her signature layered necklaces for the dinner, including three sautoir-length necklaces strung with beads and other charms. She also added a pair of earrings featuring gold disks and pearl drops.
The young Spanish princesses escorted their Greek royal cousins as they arrived for the dinner. Princess Leonor wore a patterned dress with a pair of gold-toned earrings, while Infanta Sofia was lovely in jade green.
Also wearing green was Queen Sofia’s younger sister, Princess Irene of Greece and Denmark, who added a white beaded necklace and a matching bracelet to her ensemble. Irene, who is a trained classical pianist, has lived in Spain since the 1980s. She received Spanish citizenship in 2018.
And Princess Tatiana, who is both a cousin and a close friend of Queen Sofia and Princess Irene, was cool in summery blue and white with floral accents and colorful necklaces. Tatiana’s husband, Dr. Jean Henri Fruchaud, was also along for the dinner. Fruchard is a cardiologist, and he and Tatiana met while she was studying bacteriology at the University of Paris in the 1960s. They’ve been married since 1966 and have two children and several grandchildren.
Tatiana is the daughter of Princess Eugenie of Greece and Denmark and her first husband, Prince Dominik Radziwill. (After their divorce, they were embroiled in some public disputes about family jewelry.) Eugenie was the daughter of Prince George of Greece and Denmark and his wife, Princess Marie Bonaparte. Marie and Eugenie are pictured here in full gala attire, including tiaras and jewels, for the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, who was married to Marie’s nephew, Prince Philip.
