This weekend, the glamorous Queen of Jordan celebrates her birthday. In her honor, we’ve got a sparkling flashback to a glittering appearance from two decades ago, when she attended the wedding of the present King and Queen of Spain.
Queen Rania was one of the guests invited to attend the nuptials of the Prince of Asturias (now King Felipe VI) and his fiancée, Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano (now Queen Letizia) in Madrid in May 2004. On the night before the wedding, Rania attended a glittering gala dinner at the Palace of El Pardo, where both she and the bride were shimmering in silver.
For the dinner, Rania wore a sleek silver column gown with gathering on the skirt, paired with a beaded topper that cascaded across her shoulders.
Here’s a closer look at the beaded piece, which featured crystals in shades of white, gray, and purple. To me, the look mimics the trailing flowers of the wisteria plant.
The sparkling diamond earrings that Rania paired with the ensemble carried this “trailing” look through to her jewelry as well. The modern statement earrings echoed the shape of the fringes of the shoulder piece.
Here’s one more look at the diamond earrings, which were Rania’s primary jeweled accessory with the outfit. She also added two silver bracelets, one worn on each wrist, to complete the look.
