Members of the former royal family of Greece gathered in Athens on Friday for a celebration on the eve of the wedding of Princess Theodora, and there were some sparkling jewels on display for the occasion.
Queen Anne-Marie, the mother of the bride, arrived for the dinner at the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens on the arm of her second son, Prince Nikolaos. She wore pearl cluster earrings and layered necklaces, including one with a diamond cross pendant. Behind them, Princess Theodora, in white with diamond and pearl drop earrings, walked in on the arm of her groom, the American lawyer Matthew Kumar.
Crown Prince Pavlos was present with Crown Princess Marie-Chantal and all five of their children for the pre-wedding dinner at the museum. Marie-Chantal wore petite gold hoop earrings and a gold and diamond bracelet, while Princess Maria-Olympia sparkled in diamond earrings and a metallic dress.
Princess Alexia and Carlos Morales Quintana were also joined at the dinner by all four of their children. Alexia wore pearl drop earrings and a necklace with a diamond heart pendant, while her daughters opted for hoop earrings and pearls.
Prince Philippos, who celebrated his own wedding in Athens three years ago, arrived for the dinner with his wife, Princess Nina.
Nina wore diamond and sapphire jewels with her blue floral dress, including a modern Fabergé egg pendant necklace. This particular piece appears to be the Zenya Egg Pendant from the Fabergé Imperial line. It’s made of white gold and set with diamonds and sapphires. (Retail price: $46,000.) There are significant connections between Nina and Fabergé. Her mother, Katharina, has served as a creative director for the company, and Nina herself has been featured in at least one of the jewelry firm’s advertisement campaigns.
Several more members of the extended family traveled from Spain to be present for the wedding celebrations. Theodora’s aunts, Queen Sofia of Spain and Princess Irene, were joined by Infanta Elena, Infanta Cristina, and two of Cristina’s children, Miguel and Irene.
Queen Sofia piled on the necklaces and bracelets for the pre-wedding dinner, including one necklace strung with blue evil eye charms. Her granddaughter, Irene, wore a sleek pair of sparkling pendant earrings.
Princess Irene opted for a beaded necklace and a lovely flower brooch set with colorful gems.
Infanta Elena wore diamonds and sapphires, including the same necklace that we saw her wear recently for the wedding of another cousin, Victoria López-Quesada y Bourbon-Two Sicilies.
Infanta Cristina chose a suite of colorful jewels for the dinner, wearing a necklace and matching earrings set with bright cabochon gemstone beads.
