Surprise! We’ve got even more sparkle from Queen Letizia today, thanks to a glittering appearance last night at an awards presentation in Barcelona.
On Tuesday, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain were on hand in Barcelona for the presentation of the Planeta Prize. The prize, established in 1952, honors novels written by authors writing in Spanish, with the goal of increasing the profile of Spanish-language writers and encouraging a love for literature. This year’s award went to Paloma Sánchez-Garnica for her novel Victoria, which is set in post-World War II Germany.
For the presentation, Queen Letizia was glamorous in a black and silver dress from one of her favorite designers, Carolina Herrera.
With her ever-present Coreterno ring on her left hand, Letizia upped the jewelry ante for this appearance, wearing some of the most sparkling diamonds in her jewelry box.
Her spectacular diamond earrings are part of the joyas de pasar collection, which is passed directly from monarch to monarch so that the jewels can be worn by the Queen of Spain. The collection was established by King Felipe’s great-grandmother, Queen Ena, who was the first owner of these incredible diamond earrings.
Here’s a closer look at the earrings on Queen Letizia back in the spring of 2018. The photo shows clearly that the earrings feature large round diamonds set in a diamond cluster. On this occasion, a banquet during the Portuguese state visit in 2018, Letizia wore the earrings with another jewelry that belonged to Ena: her diamond and pearl tiara.
For Tuesday evening’s awards ceremony, Queen Letizia also added one more piece of sparkling jewelry from her personal collection. The white gold and diamond bracelet that she wore on her left arm comes from Cartier. It’s been in her jewelry box for more than 15 years.
