The festivities for the Princess of Asturias Awards continued in Oviedo last week with even more Spanish royal sparkle, including stunning earrings set with diamonds and aquamarines.
Last week, we covered the Princess of Asturias’s trouser suit and diamond earrings from Thursday’s Medal of Asturias presentation in Oviedo. That evening, she joined her parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, and her sister, Infanta Sofia, for the annual concert at the Principe Felipe Auditorium on the night before the big awards ceremony. The three royal ladies were elegant at the concert in ensembles, per UFO No More, from Roland Mouret (Letizia), Hugo Boss and Philosophy di Lorenzo (Leonor), and Zara (Sofia).
With her navy blue dress, Queen Letizia wore a pair of gala earrings that have been in her collection for many years. These diamond and aquamarine earrings come from Bulgari. They can be worn with or without the diamond and aquamarine drops, and Letizia wears them frequently in both settings.
Leonor definitely also wore a pair of earrings for the concert, and I believe they’re set with diamonds, but I haven’t seen a good picture that shows the details. As usual, Sofia didn’t wear earrings or jewelry during the awards celebration.
On Friday morning, the royals headed to the Reconquista Hotel for an audience with winners of this year’s Princess of Asturias Awards. The awards, bestowed by the Princess of Asturias Foundation, are presented as part of the foundation’s mission of “extolling and promoting those scientific, cultural and humanistic values that form part of the universal heritage of humanity and to consolidate the existing links between the Principality of Asturias and the title traditionally held by the heirs to the Crown of Spain.” This year’s laureates include the musician Joan Manuel Serrat, tennis champion Carolina Marín, and Marjane Satrapi, author of the graphic novel Persepolis.
For the audience, Queen Letizia wore a watermelon-colored tweed dress with her gold and diamond ribbon earrings, which we saw her wear back in January for Pascua Militar.
Princess Leonor wore a pair of gold bamboo hoop earrings. Queen Letizia owns an identical pair. Either Leonor has her own matching earrings or she borrowed her mother’s hoops for the occasion.
On Friday evening, the royal family arrived at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo for the presentation of the Princess of Asturias Awards. Leonor delivered remarks during the ceremony.
King Felipe’s mother, Queen Sofia, also joined the family for the awards ceremony. All of the royals wore dark ensembles for the event. Queen Letizia wore a Carolina Herrera dress with a statement neckline, while Princess Leonor opted for a black trouser suit. Both Infanta Sofia and Queen Sofia also wore black trousers. The younger Sofia added a gold jacket to her ensemble, while Queen Sofia wore a sparkling white beaded jacket.
There were some major jewels on display for the awards ceremony, which is always a sparkling event. Queen Letizia wore her black and white diamond earrings from the now-defunct Swiss jewelry firm De Grisogono.
Princess Leonor borrowed another pair of earrings from her mother’s jewelry box for the awards ceremony. She wore Letizia’s diamond starburst earrings, which come from the brand Yanes.
Queen Sofia’s jacket shimmered mightily on its own, but she also added a few more jewelry pieces, including earrings, bracelets, and rings set with white and gold pearls, plus a gold brooch with pearl drops.
