On Thursday, Princess Madeleine sparkled in statement earrings in New York to celebrate a milestone anniversary for one of the Queen of Sweden’s signature projects.
Princess Madeleine of Sweden arrived at 583 Park Ave in Manhattan on Thursday for the World Childhood Foundation’s 25th anniversary gala. The foundation, which was started by Queen Silvia of Sweden in 1999, works toward ending sexual abuse, exploitation, and violence against children. When she started the foundation, Queen Silvia declared, “I have founded an organization. My biggest wish is to shut it down soon.” A quarter century later, though, the work continues, and Madeleine now serves as the vice honorary chair of the organization.
In an interview this week with People, Madeleine said, “My mother has brought attention to an issue that few were willing to confront. What stands out most to me is her unwavering commitment to speak up, regardless of the audience or setting. This has motivated me to use my own voice to amplify the voices and needs of children who are all too often overlooked.”
For the black-tie reception and dinner, the princess wore a bottle-green dress with silver accessories. UFO No More tells us that the dress is the Self Portrait Rhinestone Mesh Midi Dress, while the strappy silver sandals Madeleine wore come from Zara. She continued the sparkling theme with a pair of major statement earrings.
The earrings come from Oscar de la Renta. They’re the brand’s Classic Jeweled Swarovski Crystal Drop Earrings. Advertising copy describing the earrings calls them a “mélange of sparkling crystals embellish the glamorous baubles of these brilliant stud earrings that offer just the right amount of light-catching shine.”
Madeleine has had the earrings in her collection for at least a year. Almost exactly a year ago, she wore them for a dinner at the Swedish Embassy in New York ahead of the annual Nobel Prize celebrations a few weeks later.
There was also another sparkling touch added to Madeleine’s ensemble: a modern cocktail ring, worn on her right hand. The ring, which has a twist detail in its design, appears to be feature diamonds (or a similar sparkling stone) in a pavé setting. Madeleine also wore her engagement and wedding rings on her left hand.
And, of course, Madeleine had to wear another very important accessory: one of Childhood’s signature beaded bracelets. We recently discussed the bracelets here in another article. They’re sold as a fundraiser for the organization.
