The British royal family gathered for the annual Festival of Remembrance in London this evening, and the Princess of Wales, the Princess Royal, and the Duchess of Gloucester all sparkled in elegant jewels for the occasion.
King Charles III attended the annual Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Saturday, accompanied by the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Princess Royal and Sir Timothy Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and the Duke of Kent. Queen Camilla, who has been dealing with a chest infection, was advised by doctors not to attend the Remembrance events of this weekend as she continues her convalescence.
All eyes were on the Prince and Princess of Wales as they arrived. Prince William was fresh off the success of another Earthshot Prize ceremony earlier this week, while Princess Catherine was making a rare public appearance during a year in which her health has been challenging. William recently told the press that Kate is “doing really well” and has been “amazing” during a difficult year.
Dressed in black, Kate wore gleaming pearl and diamond jewels as she arrived for the Festival. Her earrings, the Collingwood Pearl Drop Earrings, originally belonged to her late mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales. Kate has worn them for a whole range of occasions over the years. She also added a piece of jewelry from her own private collection: a pearl pendant necklace from Monica Vinader. With a paper poppy, she also wore the badge of the Fleet Air Arm. She’s been their Commodore-in-Chief since 2023.
Kate also added another iconic piece of jewelry to her ensemble: her diamond and sapphire engagement ring, which was also previously worn by Diana. In recent months, we’ve often seen her go without the ring. It’s nice to see it back in action for a major event.
The Princess Royal wore black with a classic patterned silk scarf as she arrived at the Royal Albert Hall for Saturday evening’s event.
She accessorized with some special pearls: pearl and diamond button earrings and the three-stranded pearl necklace that belonged to her late mother, Queen Elizabeth II. She also pinned a gorgeous pearl and diamond brooch to her outfit. Worn beside that piece were a large poppy and, I believe, the badge of the Royal British Legion.
The Duchess of Edinburgh also wore black for the occasion, opting for a velvet ensemble matched with a patterned handbag.
She added a few pieces of jewelry as well, including a pair of sparkling earrings and a gem-set pendant necklace. With her poppy, she wore an interesting military pin. It’s the badge of the Queen’s Own Yeomanry, one of the Army Reserve light armoured reconnaissance regiments. The badge depicts a running fox. Sophie was appointed as the Royal Colonel of the regiment in 2023.
The Duchess of Gloucester wore a black gown with lace detailing on the bodice as she arrived for the annual festival. She carried a patriotic Union Jack clutch bag as well.
Her jewels included a gorgeous pair of diamond and ruby cluster earrings, as well as the badge of the Adjutant General’s Corps. She’s their Deputy Colonel-in-Chief. But it’s tough to take your eyes off the round brooch that she pinned at the neckline of her dress. It’s set with diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires, and it has an interesting floral scroll design.
We’ve also seen Birgitte wear the piece in the past as a pendant. Here, she pairs it with Queen Mary’s Honeysuckle Tiara for a banquet at the Guildhall during the Singapore state visit in 2014.
