The Princess of Orange is coming into her own as the future Queen of the Netherlands, and her impressive gala jewelry moments in 2024 have landed her at number eight on my countdown of the best royal jewelry moments of the year.
Princess Amalia, the eldest daughter of the King and Queen of the Netherlands, has now reached her full majority and has begun supporting her parents in their royal roles. And, as of 2024, that means appearing in full gala jewels at state banquets, official dinners, and other glittering events. She began her royal year of jewels in April 2024 when she attended her first state banquet, participating in a dinner honoring the visiting King and Queen of Spain.
For the banquet, she wore a tiara that she’d previously appeared in before, including a memorable outing at the royal wedding in Jordan in 2023. With the tiara and necklace from the Ruby Peacock Parure, she added the ruby and diamond cluster earrings from the Mellerio Ruby Parure and one of the family’s gorgeous ruby and diamond bracelets.
In September, Amalia cut a glamorous figure for Prinsjesdag, which has an unusual daytime formal dress code. She upped the wow factor with a dress from Safiyaa with medieval-inspired sleeves, paired with golden accessories.
She also gleamed in gold-toned jewelry for the event, wearing a headband with coordinating earrings, bracelets, and rings.
The next day, Amalia brought out some major heirloom sparkle with her royal blue dress and diamonds for the Council of State dinner at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague.
With the dress, she wore gorgeous diamond drop earrings from Queen Juliana’s collection and a spectacular diamond trellis necklace that has been worn by five generations of Dutch royal women. The necklace was a wedding gift to Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands from her mother, Queen Emma, in 1901, and it is still treasured by the Dutch royal family over a century later.
At the end of the year, we were treated to a second state banquet appearance by the princess, who is one of the most active jewelry-wearers of her young generation of future European monarchs. She sparkled in a tiara and gala gown to host the President of Portugal for a state dinner at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam on December 10.
This time around, she wore an all-diamond look that was anchored by the Dutch Star Tiara. This second setting of the family’s Pearl Button Tiara features antique diamond stars from Queen Emma’s collection mounted on the tiara’s festoon base. The tiara was Queen Máxima’s bridal diadem in 2002, and it was also worn by Princess Amalia for her very first tiara appearance in 2022. For this dinner, she paired the star tiara with more diamond pieces, including one of the Dutch East Indies Bracelets.
More sparkle is coming your way later today, when we reveal number seven on my countdown of the best royal jewelry moments of the year! Stay tuned!
