The birthday celebrations continued this weekend in Luxembourg, where Grand Duchess Maria Teresa marked her last birthday before her husband’s coming abdication with a grand new set of bejeweled official portraits.

Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa posed recently for the new images, which were taken in Luxembourg by one of the family’s favorite photographers, Sophie Margue.
The court even released a behind-the-scenes video of the portrait session on Instagram. You can see the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess posing for the camera above.

In one set of pictures, Maria Teresa wears a navy blue jumpsuit with a sheer top layer. UFO No More tells us that the ensemble comes from that perennial favorite European royal design house, Natan.

She accessorized with several pieces of diamond and sapphire jewelry from the grand ducal collection. Her earrings sapphire and diamond cluster earrings feature a unique oval-shaped stud that accommodates a pair of sapphires, with another sapphire set in the pear-shaped cluster drop. They’ve been in the family for many years. Maria Teresa recently wore the earrings during the papal visit to Luxembourg, and they’ve also been favorites of Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie in recent years.
The unique necklace that Maria Teresa wore belonged to her late mother-in-law, Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte. The piece features an enormous cabochon sapphire set as its centerpiece, with a pair of diamond and sapphire ornaments on either side. A climbing floral motif, set in diamonds, connects the three pieces. Joséphine-Charlotte sometimes wore the necklace on a simple tiara frame, but Maria Teresa has so far only used it in its necklace setting. The piece can also be separated into three individual elements, with the central element used alone as a brooch or pendant and, I believe, the two side ornaments worn as a pair of clip brooches.

Maria Teresa finished off her sapphire look for the portrait with an elegant sapphire and diamond bracelet, a lovely cabochon sapphire and diamond cluster ring, and a modern diamond ring worn with her gold wedding band.

For the second new set of portraits, Maria Teresa chose a blush-pink jumpsuit from the designer Elie Saab. The outfit features a stylized floral design on the neckline.

The Grand Duchess changed out her jewelry for this portrait as well. She wore modern statement earrings with oversized gems in a gold cluster and drilled pendant stones. She also wore a diamond-studded ring on her left hand, plus a favorite pearl and diamond bracelet on her left wrist.

And finally, as a little extra, we’ve got one more birthday celebration from Henri and Maria Teresa’s daughter-in-law, Princess Claire of Luxembourg. As a gesture of thanks for all of the well-wishes received for her 40th birthday, the court released this playful picture from Félix and Claire’s private collection. The image shows the couple in party mode, with Félix wearing a sequin-encrusted track suit and Claire in a pink feather-trimmed dress with silver accessories. She’s also wearing a party-appropriate headpiece that looks to be festooned with disco balls. Love it!
